Without oral care, your pet's health could be at risk.  In fact, over 80% of dogs have periodontal disease before they are four years old.  Periodontal disease can cause permanent damage, including loose teeth and permanent tooth loss.  This makes chewing on their tasty bones and treats difficult and even painful.  With periodontal disease the bacteria can build up and if they enter the blood stream, can affect the liver, heart and kidneys.  Not to mention that dental tartar and gingivitis cause bad breath, which smells horrible.
A dental prophylaxis needs to be performed routinely to prevent dental disease.  This is recommended in every 2-3 years in pets that have good in-home care and proper diet.  We know it can be hard to brush your pet's teeth every day and dental tartar can build up quickly, and in most cases a dental prophylaxis may need to be performed more frequently.
Skyview Animal Clinic has been successfully using a Hills prescription diet called T/D. This diet can be feed as a regular daily diet or even giving as treats. The T/D kibbles are designed to remove plaque and tarter from your pet's teeth as they bite into them. You will notice a difference in your pet's teeth in just a few weeks.

TD
Along with feeding a special diet you should make sure that you are brushing your pet's teeth regularly. This will help cut down on the plaque build-up making their teeth stay clean and free of rapid plaque buildup.

The program that we are offering will include the following:

*A Physical Exam

We will listen to your pet's heart for murmurs or arrythmias.  We will also listen to your pet's lungs. If any irregularities exist, we will contact you and we will not proceed if we feel your pet is not in appropriate health for anesthesia.

*Pre-operative blood work up

Our greatest concern while your pet is at our clinic is their well being.  Before putting them under anesthesia, we will perform a pre-anesthesia lab analysis.  Since dental disease can lead to kidney, liver, lung and/or heart disease, it is important to objectively evaluate their internal organ systems.  We can also use this information as a baseline in case of future illnesses.

*A complete dental cleaning, scaling, polishing and fluoride treatment

*A take home dental kit
